The Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card is offering a new incentive for new cardholders.

Starting April 5, 2022, the $0-annual-fee card, which didn’t previously have a sign-up bonus, will feature the following limited-time offer when you apply on sites like NerdWallet: Earn a $150 statement credit after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. (Note: Offers may differ if you apply elsewhere.)

This new offer is in addition to the card’s lengthy interest-free offer, which gives holders a 0% intro APR on purchases for 12 months and 0% intro APR on balance transfers for 21 months, and then the ongoing APR of 17.49%-28.24% Variable APR. All other features of the card remain the same.

A $150 bonus is a decent amount for a balance transfer card, since many don't typically offer sign-up bonuses. However, when opting for a 0% APR card like the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card, your goal is probably to pay down debt. Making new purchases to get the bonus might end up piling on more debt on top of your initial balance.

Even so, if you are able to pay off purchases on time and in full each month, the bonus can be beneficial and can help to cover some of the card’s 5% balance transfer fee.
