Citi® Double Cash Card
NerdWallet rating

If you value low-hassle cash rewards on every credit card purchase — no matter what you buy — the Citi Double Cash® Card has long been a top option. It earns an impressive 2% cash back on every purchase (1% when you buy, 1% when you pay it off), and has a $0 annual fee.

One knock on the card, though, is that historically it hasn't offered an introductory bonus to new cardholders.

But now, new cardholders can earn the following bonus: For a limited time, earn $200 cash back after spending $1,500 on purchases in the first 6 months of account opening.

Plus, the card boasts a lengthy introductory offer on balance transfers: 0% intro APR on balance transfers for 18 months, and then the ongoing APR of 18.49%-28.49% Variable APR.

In recent years, a growing number of credit cards have entered the 2% flat-rate cash-back market, and several of those cards do regularly offer bonuses to new cardholders. The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card, for instance, offers 2% cash back on all purchases for a $0 annual fee and offers this bonus: Earn a $200 cash rewards bonus after spending $500 in purchases in the first 3 months.

The Citi Double Cash® Card earns rewards in the form of ThankYou points that can be redeemed for cash at the rate of 1 cent per point. ThankYou points can be redeemed for other rewards like gift cards or statement credits or transferred to a limited number of Citi travel partners, including JetBlue and Wyndham.
