The $95-annual-fee Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Business Credit Card is built for the small-business owner who loves staying at Wyndham properties and who is also spending heavily on marketing, advertising and utilities.

So if you’re a frequent traveler and entrepreneur working hard to get the word out about your business, this could be the card for you.

Those are highly specific spending categories, though, and potentially not as useful for a side gig or even some sole proprietorships.

Here are five things to know about the card.

1. Rewards rates are impressive, if your spending lines up

The Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Business Credit Card earns:

  • 8 points per $1 spent on Wyndham hotel stays and on gas.

  • 5 points per $1 spent on marketing, advertising and utilities.

  • 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Those are pretty specific bonus categories that won’t appeal to all small-business owners, but could be a huge boost for some.

NerdWallet values Wyndham points at 1.2 cents each.

2. You'll have no shortage of places to use those points

Wyndham is a massive hotel chain, with over 9,000 properties around the world. That makes it easy to turn your points into a stay at one of the many hotel options. Free nights typically cost 7,500, 15,000 or 30,000 points per bedroom. You also have the option of using your points to score discounted nights.

You can opt to use points toward gift cards, shopping or airline transfers, but you generally will get less value per point that way. Gift cards, for example, get you just 0.4 cent per point.

3. There's a solid sign-up bonus

The card offers the following for new customers: Earn 40,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 90 days.

Compared to other cards with a similar annual fee, that’s a pretty good welcome offer — but there are others that could be more lucrative and flexible.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, for example, offers the following: Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. And you can redeem those points for a lot more than just stays with Wyndham.

4. Anniversary points can be valuable

The Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Business Credit Card gives you 15,000 bonus points on your card anniversary every year, and that can snag you a free night at plenty of Wyndham properties, though not at the chain's highest-tier properties, which cost 30,000 points per night.

Other hotel cards with similar annual fees, like the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card and the World of Hyatt Credit Card, offer an outright "free night award" every year that you can apply to a wide range of properties.

While the Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Business Credit Card is aimed at small-business owners, Wyndham also offers two consumer cards: the Wyndham Rewards Earner® Plus Card and the Wyndham Rewards Earner® Card.

They come with lower annual fees ($75 and $0, respectively), as well as lower rewards rates. If you enjoy Wyndham properties but you aren’t a business owner, these cards could be more appealing to you.

The three cards also offer different Wyndham Rewards member levels; the Wyndham Rewards® Earner℠ Business Credit Card comes with the highest level, Diamond, which includes suite upgrades and a welcome amenity at check-in.
