The cornerstone of Crunch Fitness is membership to its standard gyms with strength and cardio equipment. But Crunch Fitness also offers an online workout program called Crunch+ and premium fitness experiences at Crunch Signature locations.

Here’s what to know about Crunch Fitness membership costs, membership benefits and how a gym membership might fit into your budget.

How much does a Crunch Fitness membership cost?

There are three tiers of membership for Crunch Fitness: Base, Peak and Peak Results. The lowest tier, Base, starts at $9.99 per month when making a 12-month commitment. If you choose to pay month-to-month with no commitment, your cost for the Base plan will be higher, typically $14.99 to $19.99 per month, depending on location.

Base membership includes access to the gym floor with cardio and strength training equipment and locker room use at a single club location. You’ll have to upgrade to get access to group classes.

Peak membership gets you all the perks of Base, plus group fitness classes and the ability to work out in multiple locations. At the time of this writing, a Peak membership is $24.99 per month with no need to commit to more than one month at a time.

The highest-priced tier, Peak Results, is typically $29.99 per month with no commitment. It includes everything from Peak, plus additional classes like high-intensity interval training and indoor cycling. You can also bring unlimited guests with you.

The prices cited here for each membership tier do not include taxes or fees. Though these are common rates, prices may vary depending on where you work out. The annual Crunch Fitness fee varies depending on your home club; the maximum annual fee is $89.

How much does a Crunch Signature membership cost?

Crunch Signature is an elevated version of Crunch Fitness with full-service locker rooms, expanded facilities and upgraded amenities. There are 28 Crunch Signature locations, all in major cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, D.C.

At some Crunch Signature locations, you have the ability to select from multiple membership tiers; options may include One Crunch (least expensive), City Crunch (mid-priced) and All Crunch (most expensive).

The price per month for each tier varies by location. For example, the Chevy Chase location in Washington, D.C. offers only the City Crunch membership, which is $49.99 per month.

But hop across the country to Southern California and the West Hollywood location currently has One Crunch for $94, City Crunch for $99 and All Crunch for $150 per month.

Then head to South Beach, Florida, and you’ll find One Crunch for $119 and All Crunch for $150 on a month-to-month basis.

(Note: We've seen rotating, limited-time discounts, so you may be able to secure your membership for a lower price.)

While most One Crunch memberships include access to cardio and strength training equipment, group fitness classes and locker room use, higher tiers come with extras like advanced registration for classes and worldwide access to Crunch gyms.

You’ll also pay a Crunch Signature annual fee, which varies from year to year and club to club, but is currently cited on the Crunch website as being $89 plus tax.

How much does a Crunch+ membership cost?

Crunch+ is Crunch Fitness’s collection of live and on-demand workouts. The online platform hosts hundreds of workouts and is available through the Crunch+ app on your mobile device, streaming devices and smart TVs.

There are two Crunch+ options:

  • Crunch+ All Access is for those who are not members of Crunch Fitness; it costs $6.99 per month and comes with a 14-day free trial.

  • Crunch Gym Member Exclusive is for Crunch Fitness members. It costs $1.99 per month and comes with a 30-day free trial. If you have the Crunch Signature All Crunch membership, then Crunch+ is included.

Crunch+ is billed as a separate monthly charge from your gym membership.

How do you cancel a Crunch Fitness membership?

Some Crunch Fitness gyms are owned by individual franchisees. This means you’ll need to contact your local gym to initiate a pause or cancellation of membership, as procedures vary from one location to another. You’ll typically need to cancel from 10 to 30 days before your next billing date.

If you want to cancel a Crunch+ subscription, you can do so on the Crunch+ website. Canceling Crunch+ will not impact your Crunch Fitness gym membership.

How does a Crunch Fitness membership fit into your budget?

When deciding how to fit a gym membership into your budget, think of your money using the 50/30/20 framework. This means 50% of your income goes toward your needs, 30% toward wants and 20% toward savings and debt repayment beyond minimums.

Wants and needs often are not the same for each person. For instance, a gym membership could be a need if you’re using certain equipment that may be difficult to get at home or is necessary to maintain your health.

However, if you’ve got a treadmill at home gathering dust or weights packed away in storage, a gym membership could be more of a want than a need.

If you want a gym membership but your wants category is already at capacity, what can you do to make room for the extra expense?

It may be helpful to take a look at the expenses in your wants category and see if there are places to save money. For instance, you could cut back on eating out at restaurants, limit vacations or reduce spending on household goods to create extra discretionary money.

It's also helpful to think about what amenities you want in a gym. Do you need basic equipment only, or are you looking for a luxury locker room to rest and recharge? More amenities, like those offered by Crunch Signature, will come with a higher price tag. Ask yourself: What amenities do I want, and can I afford those in my budget?

Before committing to a membership, try visiting a Crunch Fitness location on a free day pass to try out the equipment and see if the environment is a good fit.
