Pros
Advanced features
With features that help businesses automate workflows and revamp their financial management strategies, Sage Intacct offers more than your standard accounting software product. It lets you customize approval workflows, establish spending limits for different departments and locations and automate fixed asset management, among other things. The system can also accommodate businesses with multiple locations across the world by handling currency conversions and local tax reporting.
Industry-specific solutions
From project accounting software for project-based businesses to advanced audit trails that help keep health care organizations compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Sage Intacct is built to be customized according to your industry. There’s grant tracking and billing for nonprofits, in addition to subscription billing options for software-as-a-service businesses, too.
Cons
Nontransparent pricing
Potential Sage Intacct customers must contact its sales team for a quote. Although this process is intended to offer a price customized to your business, it’s less than ideal. It makes it difficult to know whether you’re receiving a fair price. And without knowing the cost upfront, you can’t compare the platform with other accounting software options as easily.
Learning curve
Though Sage Intacct can fulfill the needs of larger small and midsize businesses, it’s not a great fit for small-business owners who are trying to hit the ground running with little accounting experience. With so many features and customization options, it’s simply more than many small businesses need.
Sage Intacct alternatives
QuickBooks Enterprise
Of all the products that fall into the QuickBooks suite, QuickBooks Enterprise is the most robust and similar to Sage Intacct. Unlike Sage Intacct, however, QuickBooks Enterprise is a desktop-based product that offers online hosting for an additional cost. It has four different plans and includes more than 200 customizable reports, budgeting and forecasting tools, inventory management, job costing and industry-specific features. Plus, if you opt for the Gold, Platinum or Diamond plans, you receive QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll. Pricing starts at $1,740 per year for the Gold plan.
Xero accounting
If your business doesn’t need such extensive accounting software like Sage Intacct or QuickBooks Enterprise, you might consider a simpler cloud-based solution like Xero accounting. It has a lower price point, solid feature set, user-friendly interface and hundreds of integration options. You’ll find tools for reconciliation, inventory, invoicing, bills, expenses, projects, purchase orders, fixed assets and more. Pricing starts at $12 per month.
