Best Oahu Marriott hotels

What many may consider to be the best Hawaiian island for first-timers (since you can easily get around Waikiki on foot), Oahu is home to the state’s capital and biggest city, Honolulu.

Waikiki Beach is known to host a long roster of hotels where you can earn and redeem points including some of the best Marriotts in Hawaii.

1. The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, Waikiki

Lovingly referred to as the “Pink Palace of the Pacific,” The Royal Hawaiian is one of the oldest hotels on Waikiki and has hosted multiple celebrities and dignitaries.

Divided between a modern and historic tower, this waterfront hotel benefits from beautiful pools, plenty of history (be sure to take one of the free historic tours) and a famous bakery, the Royal Hawaiian Bakery. Try any of the pink treats. The pink pancakes are the hotel's signature favorite.

2. Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach

If you’re looking for that familiar white tea scent for which Westin is known, this beachfront Westin brings just as much pomp and circumstance as its neighbor the Pink Palace.

This was the first hotel on Waikiki, and it continues its prominence today with beautiful rocking chairs on the porch. Now officially known as The Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, it has easy beachfront access, a busy swimming pool and a club lounge with epic sunset views.

It also hosts our pick for best brunch on Waikiki by way of the Veranda at the Moana. Menu items including the hearty loco moco (a Hawaiian dish of rice, hamburger patty, gravy and egg) and mango pancakes served with lilikoi curd (lilikoi is the Hawaiian word for passion fruit).

3. Courtyard by Marriott Oahu North Shore

Summer, Architecture, Building

Few people would rave about a Courtyard by Marriott, generally viewed as one of the more forgettable Marriott brands. The outpost on Oahu's North Shore is absolutely the exception.

Though it's not technically a resort, it offers a bunch of resort-style amenities like hula classes, poolside lounge chairs and outdoor recreation like pickleball — all without any resort fees.

The Courtyard Marriott Oahu North Shore is ideally located near Oahu’s most iconic attractions, including the Polynesian Cultural Center just next door. It's only a short drive to famous surf spots like Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach, the historic town of Haleʻiwa, plus other outdoor adventures like CLIMB Works Keana Farms.

4. The Ritz-Carlton O'ahu, Turtle Bay

Beach, Coast, Nature

The Ritz-Carlton, O‘ahu, Turtle Bay, is a luxurious addition to Marriott’s portfolio, joining after an ownership change in 2024. Located on Oahu’s stunning North Shore not far from the Courtyard Oahu North Shore, this hotel is the far more opulent of the two.

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Alaia, delivers an extraordinary dining experience, but there are plenty of other top-tier dining options. Beach House by Roy Yamaguchi is also a must-do. And for a unique take on the luau, don't miss Paniolo, A Hawaiian Cowboy Lūʻau which specifically focuses on Hawai‘i’s ranching and cowboy heritage.

5. Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club

For members of Marriott’s Vacation Club, this property has villas with one to three bedrooms, a half hour from Honolulu.

With a quieter beach than Waikiki, swaying palms surrounding pools, and residential accommodations with kitchens and living areas, this resort is ideal for self-sufficient families.

Not only does this property come with the brand elements of Westin, but it also delivers studio and villa accommodation options for those who need more space.

Best Big Island Marriott hotels

The volcanoes and beaches on the island of Hawaii (also known as the Big Island) draw visitors from near and far. It offers a different vibe than the urban feeling of Oahu.

This property was originally developed by Laurance S. Rockefeller as the first resort on the Big Island. It has a beautiful beachfront, watersports, cultural activities and great dining.

How to earn Marriott Bonvoy points

With so many Marriott resorts in Hawaii, it can be hard to choose which one to visit first. You’ll need a hearty Marriott Bonvoy points balance to make it happen. Here are some of the best ways to top off a Marriott Bonvoy points account before planning a trip to paradise.

  • Book Marriott stays. Members receive 10 points per dollar spent on most hotel bookings, although a few brands qualify for 5 points per dollar spent. This doesn't include the bonus points you’ll earn as an elite member (as much as 75% more points for top Titanium and Ambassador Elite members).

  • Take advantage of transfer partners. If you're a United elite member, you can take advantage of United's RewardsPlus program, which allows you to transfer miles to points at a 1:1 ratio. You can also transfer points from credit card programs like Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy on a 1:1 basis or from American Express Membership Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy on a 1:1 basis as well.

  • Add a Marriott credit card to your wallet. There are plenty of Marriott co-branded credit cards that bulk up a Marriott points balance through frequent spending, stays at Marriott properties and plump welcome bonuses for those who meet certain spending thresholds. Some cards, like the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful™ Card, also offer bonus points for spending at places like restaurants and supermarkets — in this case, 4 points per dollar on up to $15,000 in spending per year.
