What is the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card travel credit?

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, with an annual fee of $395, is one of Capital One’s premium cards.

Although the annual fee is less than what you’d pay for other popular premium credit cards (such as $695 for The Platinum Card® from American Express or $550 for the Chase Sapphire Reserve®), you should still consider all of the card’s benefits to determine if you can get at least $395 worth of value from the card each year.

One of the best ways to help offset the annual fee and maximize the value that you’ll get from the card is by taking full advantage of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card’s $300 annual travel credit.

How to use the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card travel credit

Using the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card travel credit is pretty straightforward.

  1. Login and book your travel — including flights, hotels and car rentals — through Capital One's travel portal at capitalonetravel.com.

  2. Pay for your travel using your Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card. You can spend $300 or more at once for a single statement credit, or you can make multiple purchases throughout the year and receive multiple statement credits until the total reaches $300.

  3. Keep your Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card account open and in good standing — you won’t receive the credit if your account is closed or delinquent.

As you can see, Capital One makes it fairly easy for you to receive Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card’s travel credit.

Other tips for spending your travel credit

  • Spend it all. You'll receive partial credits if you spend less than $300 on travel and meet the requirements above. So if you only spend $200 through Capital One Travel using your Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, you’ll receive a $200 credit. Be sure to go back and spend the $100 credit you have left if you want to maximize the benefit.

  • Prepare for delays. Although Capital One says the statement credit will post within 1-7 business days, it can take as long as two billing cycles after purchase for the credit to post.

  • Know the limitations. Remember that you’ll need to book your travel through the Capital One Travel site to receive the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card travel credit. This is unlike other cards, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, which allows you to earn a travel credit for any spend in the travel category with no requirement for booking through a specific travel portal.

  • Don't worry about canceled bookings. If you cancel your purchase that you received the travel credit for, the travel credit may be removed but is still eligible for reissue.

  • Know when it resets. The annual credit is based on your anniversary year, not the calendar year. So once you receive the full $300 travel credit, you'll have to wait until after the anniversary of opening your card to earn the travel credit again.

The bottom line

By taking full advantage of the $300 annual travel credit that comes with the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, cardholders can recoup much of the card’s $395 annual fee.

To use the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card travel credit, you need to book your travel through Capital One Travel, pay for the travel using your rewards card and ensure your credit card is open and in good standing. Even if you don’t plan on spending $300 or more through Capital One Travel, you can still receive a partial statement for travel booked on the site using your card.

Overall, we recommend that Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card holders take full advantage of the $300 annual travel credit to get the most value out of the card and better offset the annual fee.
