The Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® is making a departure.
Barclays has announced it will soon stop accepting new applications for the travel rewards card. A Barclays representative confirms that affiliate sites like NerdWallet are being notified this week and that the issuer will stop accepting applications for the card, and for personal loans, on its own website in the next few days.
The news follows the closure of the Barclaycard Ring® Mastercard® to new applicants a few weeks earlier.
It's unclear whether Barclays plans to eliminate or replace the Arrival Plus entirely. The issuer has not determined the next steps for the product, the Barclays representative added.
Current cardmembers can continue using their cards as before, and get the following benefits:
Enjoy 70,000 bonus miles after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 90 days.
Earn 2 miles per $1 on all purchases.
Book travel your way — no airline, seat or hotel restrictions — and redeem your miles for travel statement credits.
Get 5% miles back to use toward your next redemption, every time you redeem.
No foreign transaction fees.
Annual fee of $89 (waived first year).
This news does not affect co-branded Barclays cards like the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard®.
In early 2018, Barclays suspended applications for the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® temporarily, to make way for the launch of the Barclays Arrival® Premier World Elite Mastercard®. That Premier card itself was then closed to new applicants just six months later, and the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® was made available again.
