Chase Credit Cards Mobile App Review

The Chase mobile app is a bit complex but robust. You can manage your cards much like you do on Chase.com.

Navigating through the Chase app isn’t always intuitive simply because you can do so much on it. But with so many Chase card offerings, it’s hard to beat the convenience of being able to manage all of your accounts together in one place, from anywhere. Overall, much of what you can do on Chase.com you can also do on the app.

Features

The Chase mobile app includes almost everything but the kitchen sink. You can complete typical tasks like paying bills and reviewing statements, as well as manage your points in the Chase Ultimate Rewards® program, enroll certain purchases in pay-over-time plans, and more.

Secure login

You can manually enter your username and password, or opt to use facial recognition or a fingerprint for a faster login. The app will log you out after a period of inactivity.

Monitoring transactions and trends

The app makes it easy to see where your money goes and helps you spot suspicious charges. You can see up to 24 months of transactions and up to seven years of credit card statements. Plus, get a breakdown of your spending by category to track trends and see if it's in line with your budget.

Staying secure

If you misplaced your card, you can lock it in the app, which will block new purchases, balance transfers and cash advances from being processed. Doing so is as easy as sliding a toggle switch to “lock.” And if it turns out your missing card was simply hiding between your couch cushions all along, you can unlock it just as easily.

The app allows you to dispute a charge with Chase if you were incorrectly charged for a purchase or if you tried to cancel a recurring charge but were charged anyway. If you notice a transaction that you or an authorized user didn’t make, Chase recommends calling the number on the back of the card to report fraudulent activity.

Access to all Chase accounts

If you carry multiple Chase cards, you’ll be able to manage all of them in the app. Holders of both business and consumer cards can toggle between those lists of cards on the home screen.

Any Chase checking, savings, mortgage, auto loan or personal loan accounts will also appear on the dashboard upon login.

Customized navigation

You can add and remove “quick actions” on the home screen, making it possible to partially customize the app and speed up access to specific features. Options include shortcut buttons to bill payment, Chase Ultimate Rewards®, a Chase bank locator, lost card replacement and more.

Paying bills

Pay your credit card bills in the app, either manually or by setting up automatic recurring payments. You can connect bank accounts as payment methods through the app as well. Plus, you can set up push notifications to get an alert when a payment is due or when your checking account is overdrawn.

Chase Ultimate Rewards®

If one or more of your cards earns Chase Ultimate Rewards® points — like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or the Chase Freedom Flex® card — you’ll probably want to keep tabs on those points. Chase’s app allows you to check your Ultimate Rewards® balance, redeem points, book travel through the Chase Travel portal, transfer points to Chase’s travel partners, and combine Ultimate Rewards® from one card to another.

Chase Pay Over Time

Those who need extra time paying off their balances may find a solution in the Chase Pay Over Time feature, which can be accessed in the app. Chase Pay Over Time allows eligible cardholders to split purchases of $100 or more into equal monthly payments. (Amazon purchases of at least $50 also qualify.) You won’t pay interest, but there is a fixed monthly fee associated with using this service. In the app, you can choose from several payment plan options.

Chase Offers

Easily opt in to Chase Offers to automatically save on an upcoming purchase with participating merchants. Click to activate an offer that you want, and it’s automatically “linked” to your card, much like a digital coupon. Chase Offers change over time, so check the app regularly to see where you can save.

Credit score monitoring

The Chase Credit Journey feature within the app helps you keep tabs on your credit score for free. (Chase uses VantageScore rather than FICO). Other benefits of Credit Journey include credit monitoring, credit report alerts and resources to help you build credit.

Drawbacks

The Chase mobile app isn’t equipped with in-app customer service messaging, so there’s no message or chat option. Users can “chat” with the Chase Digital Assistant in the app, but that connects you to a bot, not a real person.

And, since the app offers so many features, some users may find it overwhelming and hard to navigate.

App vs. web browser

When it comes to managing your accounts, credit card rewards and more, most tasks can be done in both the mobile app and in a web browser on desktop or mobile. You can even open new checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit and credit cards through the app. For other actions, like applying for a mortgage or auto loan, the app will redirect you to the mobile version of Chase.com. So there are still some banking tasks that need to be completed in a web browser.

When you visit the Chase website, you can send a secure message to customer service, but you can’t send messages from the app.

Because there are slight design variations between Chase.com and the Chase app, it’s just a matter of familiarizing yourself with them both.
