Update:

As of February 2022, Chase has extended this benefit. In order to take advantage of this offer, you must activate it by Dec. 31, 2024.

As of August 2024, Chase extended the DashPass benefit. For more information, see this page.

Ordering in just got more rewarding for certain Chase customers.

Starting Jan. 7, 2020, and for a limited time, eligible cardholders can receive complimentary memberships to DoorDash's subscription delivery service, DashPass, which advertises free deliveries on qualifying orders from certain restaurants. A DashPass subscription typically costs $9.99 a month.

How it works

DoorDash members can activate the DashPass offer by adding an eligible Chase credit card as the default method of payment in the DoorDash app. Several Chase cards qualify, although the length of the deal differs depending on the card and the date of activation. (Offers must be activated by March 31, 2022.)

Holders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card can get access to a complimentary DashPass for up to 24 months after activation.

Four other cards will have access to complimentary DashPass for the first three months after activation, followed by a 50% discount off the current rate for nine months after that.

🤓Nerdy Tip

As of May 10, 2021, Chase is offering a complimentary one-year DashPass membership to cardholders of eligible co-branded credit cards who activate it by December 31, 2021. The benefit offers unlimited $0 delivery fees, reduced service fees on qualifying orders of $12 or more and 5% back in DoorDash credit on all pickup orders.

Once the offer is activated, orders placed with DashPass-eligible restaurants (indicated by a blue checkmark in the app) totaling $12 or more will qualify for the DashPass benefits of a $0 delivery fee and reduced service fees. DoorDash's website notes that "fees vary for each restaurant on the DoorDash platform" and are calculated as a percentage of the order subtotal. The company also notes that additional fees may apply "for orders below a minimum subtotal and for orders when demand is especially high."

Is this a good deal?

If you consistently use DoorDash several times a week, it certainly could save you money — an average of $4 to $5 per order, according to DoorDash, although delivery fees can vary widely.

Holders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card might find this promotion particularly appealing, as both the Sapphire cards earn elevated rewards on dining purchases.

But keep the following in mind:

  • The DashPass service isn't available in every market. You'll want to check your DoorDash app first.

  • Delivery is free via DashPass, but "service fees" are separate.

  • These are limited-time promotions, so it'll be up to you to keep track of when they end and/or cancel your membership.
