Discover is now offering a 21-month 0% APR period for balance transfers, matching the longest 0% offers from its major competitors.

Previously, the card now known as the Discover it® Balance Transfer offered 18 months at 0% APR for balance transfers, and six months at 0% for purchases. Now Discover has improved the offer: It's offering 21 months of 0% APR on balance transfers, and six months of 0% APR for purchases.

The move makes it a much stronger competitor with other 0% APR cards in the 21-and-over club, such as the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card — especially since it's the only card in this group from a major issuer that offers rewards and a sign-up bonus. Like most other cards in this category, it has an annual fee of $0 and charges a 3% intro balance transfer fee, up to 5% fee on future balance transfers (see terms)*.

For details on the rewards and the bonus, see our full review. However, we recommend using it as a “just-for-debt” card until you've paid off your transferred balance. Its robust cash-back rewards make it the best option for those who want a balance transfer card they can keep using once their debt is paid off.
