Planning to do some holiday shopping at Walmart.com or Best Buy? It might behoove you to enroll in the Chase Pay digital wallet if you haven’t already.

For a limited time, eligible Chase cardholders can boost their normal rewards rates by using Chase Pay to make purchases at those merchants. Here’s how the promotions work:

  • At Walmart.com: Through Dec. 14, 2017, check out using Chase Pay and you can earn 10 points per dollar spent with the Chase Sapphire® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve®; 10% cash back per dollar spent with the Chase Freedom Unlimited®; or up to 10% cash back on purchases made with the Chase Freedom®. There’s a $325 spending cap for this promotion. If you reach that cap, those rewards will likely be worth between $32.50 to $48.75, depending on the card and redemption option.

  • At Best Buy: Through Dec. 24, 2017, check out using Chase Pay and you can earn 10 points per dollar spent with the Chase Sapphire® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve®; 10% cash back per dollar spent with the Chase Freedom Unlimited®; or 10% cash back on purchases made with the Chase Freedom®. There’s a $400 spending cap for this promotion. If you reach that cap, those rewards will likely be worth between $40 to $60, depending on the card and redemption option.

Note that the Best Buy offer is for in-store purchases, meaning you’ll have to download the Chase Pay app on your mobile device and use it at checkout.

Keep in mind, too, that at either merchant, the 10-point or 10% cash-back bonus is the maximum you can earn per transaction. For example, with the Chase Freedom Unlimited®, you’d earn an additional 8.5% on top of that credit card’s normal rewards rate of 1.5% cash back on all purchases, for a total of 10% back.

And in the case of the Chase Freedom®, Walmart is already a bonus category for the final quarter of 2017, so the Chase Pay boost would break down this way:

  • Earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in this quarter’s bonus categories (Walmart and department stores); earn 1% back on everything else

  • Earn 5% cash back when you use Chase Pay to check out on Walmart.com (through Dec. 14, 2017)

So if you’re a Chase Freedom® cardholder, activate your bonus categories to take full advantage of this offer. If you’ve already hit the card’s $1,500 spending cap, or if you do so at some point before the Chase Pay promotional period ends, you’ll drop down to earning only 6% back at Walmart.com through the remainder of the Chase Pay promotion.
