For no annual fee, Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard cardholders can earn between 1% and 2.5% back on eligible purchases. However, the highest earn rate of 2.5% is only available to Amazon Prime members, and membership costs between $99 and $120 per year.

Benefits of the Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard

  • No annual fee.

  • 10% off Avis and Budget Rent A Car base rates (5% off international bookings).

Drawbacks of the Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard

  • If you do not have Prime Membership, the top earn rate drops to 1.5% (Prime membership costs $99 per year).

  • You can only shop at Amazon.ca, Whole Foods Market, or make foreign transactions to receive the top rewards rate.

  • Rewards cannot be deposited as cash to your bank account or used as a statement credit. Instead, they are deposited as credit to your Amazon.ca account.

  • No travel insurance available.

Who should get the Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard?

Amazon Prime members who spend big at Amazon.ca and Whole Foods Market may get a lot out of this card’s 2.5% rewards rate.

Is Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard worth it?

The Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard is only worth it if you’re an Amazon Prime member and shop regularly at Amazon.ca and Whole Foods Market. The card’s rewards are essentially converted to Amazon.ca credit, which can only be used on Amazon.ca.

What Reddit has to say

NerdWallet’s credit card experts rigorously review every detail of a card to determine its rating. But our Nerds know it can also be helpful to hear what everyday cardholders think. So, we took to Reddit to find out what users are saying about the Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard® across multiple threads.

Redditors somewhat disagree with NerdWallet's review

As of this writing, Redditors are luke warm on the Amazon card. While some agree with NerdWallet’s position that the card is useful if you’re a Prime member who already shops frequently with Amazon, many feel its drawbacks outweigh its benefits. Specifically, Redditors don’t like being limited to earning rewards solely with the online retailer. Some users favor other cards, like the Amex Cobalt and CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite Card, both of which are on NerdWallet’s list of the best rewards cards.
