NerdWallet+ Terms

These NerdWallet+ Terms are part of the NerdWallet Terms of Use. By agreeing to these NerdWallet+ Terms, you also agree to the NerdWallet Terms of Use. The NerdWallet+ Program is considered a “Service” under the NerdWallet Terms of Use and all terms in the NerdWallet Terms of Use which apply to the Services also apply to the NerdWallet+ Program. Capitalized terms used but not defined in these NerdWallet+ Terms have the meaning given to them in the NerdWallet Terms of Use.
Please read these NerdWallet+ Terms carefully. They will help you understand how the NerdWallet+ Program works. These NerdWallet+ Terms relate only to the NerdWallet+ Program. For terms related to other NerdWallet services and offerings, please refer to the NerdWallet Terms of Use and any other terms applicable to such services and offerings.
1. What is NerdWallet+?
a. NerdWallet+ is a subscription-based program that is intended to reward members NerdWallet+ Reward Points for completing certain eligible activities on the NerdWallet platform which reflect smart financial choices and provide members with certain benefits and offerings that may not be available to non-members (the “Program” or “NerdWallet+ Program”).
b. Subject to these NerdWallet+ Terms, NerdWallet+ Reward Points will be deposited into the member’s NerdWallet+ reward portal account and may then be redeemed by the member after a minimum threshold level of points is reached by the member. NerdWallet+ Reward Points can be redeemed for a digital third-party gift card, cash payment, or any other rewards determined by NerdWallet from time to time.
c. The benefits and offerings of NerdWallet+ cannot be combined with any other NerdWallet benefits, services, memberships or offerings unless otherwise expressly indicated by NerdWallet.
2. SPECIFIC DISCLAIMERS
a. Engaging in eligible activities, such as applying for a NerdWallet+ eligible credit card or other financial product, setting financial priorities, increasing your credit score or paying your bills on time, is not a guarantee of a particular result. Credit applications and other financial product applications are subject to lender or provider approval based on their evaluation of your creditworthiness and other relevant qualities. Participation in NerdWallet+ does not increase your likelihood of approval for eligible credit products or that your overall financial situation will be in a better position as a result of your participation.
3. Eligibility and Membership; Membership Fee
a. To participate in and become a member of NerdWallet+, you must (i) be at least eighteen (18) years of age; (ii) have not previously been suspended or removed from the Services; and (iii) become a registered user of NerdWallet, (iv) sign up for a NerdWallet+ membership, and (v) pay the annual NerdWallet+ membership fee set forth in the NerdWallet+ portal at the time you sign up. All NerdWallet+ membership fees are paid in advance for each annual membership term and are non-refundable.
b. The Program is intended to benefit natural persons only. The Program is void outside of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia and where otherwise prohibited by law. You must be a resident of such 50 United States or the District of Columbia to be a NerdWallet+ member and participate in the benefits and offerings of NerdWallet+. You represent and warrant and shall ensure that you have and will continue to have the legal right to use any credit card or other payment method used to pay the NerdWallet+ membership fee.
c. The NerdWallet+ webpages and app, and these NerdWallet+ Terms may contain other eligibility requirements, which may change from time to time.
4. NerdWallet+ Accounts
a. Each NerdWallet+ member may only have one registered user account and NerdWallet+ membership. The individual who is the authorized email account holder of the email address provided at the time of joining NerdWallet+ will be deemed to be the NerdWallet+ member. NerdWallet+ accounts may not be sold, transferred, or assigned to, or shared with others.
b. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your registered user account NerdWallet+ reward portal, including your password. You must not use a username (or email address) that is already being used by someone else, may impersonate another person, belongs to another person, violates the intellectual property or other right of any person or entity, or is offensive. You must provide accurate, current, and complete registration information about yourself in connection with the registration process and, as permitted, to maintain and update it continuously and promptly to keep it accurate, current, and complete. Each NerdWallet+ member is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of NerdWallet+ membership information. Changes to your account may only be made by the member to whom the account belongs. NerdWallet is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information supplied.
c. You are solely responsible for all activities (including redemption of NerdWallet+ Reward Points) that occur under your account, password, and username – whether or not you authorized the activity.
d. You will immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your account, password, or username, or any other breach of security (including unauthorized redemption of NerdWallet+ Reward Points). NerdWallet will not be liable for any loss or damage (of any kind and under any legal theory) to you or any third-party relating to any unauthorized use of your account or NerdWallet+ Reward Points.
5. Automatic Renewal Terms
a. NerdWallet+ memberships renew automatically on an annual basis at the then-current NerdWallet+ membership rate, until you or NerdWallet cancels your NerdWallet+ membership. For each NerdWallet+ membership renewal, the NerdWallet+ member’s existing payment method will be charged at the then-current NerdWallet+ membership rate for the subsequent membership term.
b. If you do not cancel your NerdWallet+ membership (as described in Section 6(a)), your NerdWallet+ membership will automatically renew at the then-current NerdWallet+ membership fee on each anniversary until you or NerdWallet cancels your membership.
c. You accept responsibility for all recurring NerdWallet+ membership fee charges prior to cancellation, including any charges processed by NerdWallet after the expiration date or cancellation of your payment card, if applicable.
6. Cancellation by You
a. You may cancel your NerdWallet+ membership at any time by emailing us at [email protected] or logging into your NerdWallet account on nerdwallet.com, clicking on “My NerdWallet” and navigating to the “Manage Subscription” tab where you may select the option to cancel the subscription.
b. Upon cancellation you will not be charged for any subsequent renewal periods and your NerdWallet+ membership will not continue past the then-current membership term. However, all NerdWallet+ membership fees paid prior to cancellation of your NerdWallet+ membership are non-refundable. If you have been charged for the renewal after you have canceled your NerdWallet+ membership by following the instructions in Section 6(a), please email us at [email protected].
c. Upon cancellation, expiration or termination of a NerdWallet+ membership, all NerdWallet+ Reward Points in your NerdWallet+ account that reached the minimum threshold of points eligible for redemption must be redeemed within 30 days. You may select a gift card or a cash payment to be issued. If you do not select a gift card or complete the requirements for a cash payment within 30 days, any points that remain unused will be refunded to you in the form of a digital gift card or other form determined by NerdWallet.
d. If the account is terminated for cause due to a violation of these NerdWallet+ Terms, the points in the NerdWallet+ account will be deemed lost and forfeited.
7. Changes, Termination and Suspension by NerdWallet
a. NerdWallet may, at any time and at NerdWallet’s discretion, with or without notice to you, and without liability to you, unilaterally make changes to or terminate the NerdWallet+ Program or these NerdWallet+ Terms. Changes to these NerdWallet+ Terms are governed by the NerdWallet Terms of Use.
b. By way of example only, we could, from time to time: (i) change the number of NerdWallet+ Reward Points you can earn for eligible activities, (ii) change the number of NerdWallet+ Reward Points required to redeem for certain rewards, (iii) change the types of rewards and the value of rewards you can redeem using your NerdWallet+ Reward Points, (iv) change or impose new minimum thresholds and caps and other conditions and requirements on NerdWallet+ Reward Points that are eligible for redemption, (v) change the types of activities and the credit cards, accounts or products that are eligible for NerdWallet+ Reward Points, (vi) change the NerdWallet+ membership fee or add new fees, and (vii) cancel the NerdWallet+ Program or any other NerdWallet+ benefits or offerings.
c. The NerdWallet+ Program, your NerdWallet+ reward portal account, NerdWallet+ Reward Points and any features or benefits of the NerdWallet+ Program (including the ability to earn NerdWallet+ Reward Points) may also be suspended or unavailable at any time, for any reason, including for maintenance and other technical reasons or reasons relating to the Third-Party Services (defined in Section 11).
d. Termination, changes, or suspension of the NerdWallet+ Program may affect your ability to earn or redeem NerdWallet+ Reward Points. In the event the NerdWallet+ Program is terminated, Section 6(c) will apply with respect to any accumulated NerdWallet+ Reward Points in your account but not redeemed.
8. Earning NerdWallet+ Reward Points
a. The NerdWallet+ Program will set forth the activities you must complete and the criteria you must meet to earn NerdWallet+ Reward Points, including any other limits, conditions, and exclusions (such as the maximum number of times you may complete a certain activity to earn NerdWallet+ Reward Points). These activities, including the criteria, limits, conditions and exclusions, are subject to change from time to time. You must follow the instructions set forth in the NerdWallet+ Program, or as otherwise notified to you, to earn NerdWallet+ Reward Points.
b. Whether you are entitled to receive NerdWallet+ Reward Points, including whether you have completed an eligible activity, met the criteria, or followed the relevant instructions, will be determined by NerdWallet in its discretion. NerdWallet reserves the right to review information made available to it and to request additional information and proof from you as part of its verification process to determine whether you are entitled to earn NerdWallet+ Reward Points and you must cooperate with NerdWallet in such efforts – failure to do so may result in a delay or failure in the processing of NerdWallet+ Reward Points.
c. Certain eligible activities may earn different multiples for earning NerdWallet+ Reward Points. The NerdWallet+ Program will include how many NerdWallet+ Reward Points you will earn for completing each eligible activity, which is subject to change.
d. Not all methods of earning NerdWallet+ Reward Points may be available to all individuals, including residents of certain states.
e. The NerdWallet+ member seeking to earn NerdWallet+ Reward Points must be the individual completing the relevant activities and meeting the criteria on their own behalf. By way of example only: (i) a NerdWallet+ member applying for an eligible credit card that may entitle such member to earn NerdWallet+ Reward Points must be applying for the credit card for themselves as the primary cardholder, and (ii) a NerdWallet+ member paying bills that may entitle such member to earn NerdWallet+ Reward Points must be paying their own bills (or the bills of their household).
f. After a NerdWallet+ member has earned NerdWallet+ Reward Points, the relevant NerdWallet+ Reward Points will be deposited within the member’s NerdWallet+ reward portal account, within a certain period of time following the completion of the eligible activity and verification by NerdWallet. Your NerdWallet+ reward portal account may not reflect the accurate or up to date number of NerdWallet+ Reward Points that you have earned. NerdWallet shall have no liability for any typographical, mechanical or other errors in the NerdWallet+ Reward Points balance shown on your NerdWallet+ account. Each NerdWallet+ member is responsible for ensuring that their NerdWallet+ Reward Points are properly credited and reflected in their NerdWallet+ reward portal account. Any claim for NerdWallet+ Reward Points not deposited properly or accurately must be received by NerdWallet within thirty (30) days of the date of claimed accrual of such points by contacting [email protected].
g. The NerdWallet+ Program webpage will include the maximum NerdWallet+ Reward Points you can earn at any given point in time or in total during your annual NerdWallet+ Program membership. Once your NerdWallet+ reward portal account reaches such maximum threshold, you will not be entitled to any more NerdWallet+ Reward Points or any other value, regardless of the eligible activities you complete. Regardless of the number of NerdWallet+ Reward Points in your NerdWallet+ reward portal account, no member may receive in any calendar year digital gift cards, cash or cash equivalents in excess of $599, in the aggregate, with respect to the NerdWallet+ Program and any other NerdWallet programs offered now or in the future. NerdWallet reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify these limits.
h. NerdWallet+ Reward Points are not your personal property. NerdWallet+ Reward Points are not transferable, sellable, have no cash value except as expressly provided herein, cannot be passed on as part of a legal action (including as a divorce, inheritance or bankruptcy) and are not redeemable for any other option not specified below. NerdWallet+ Reward Points cannot be combined across other NerdWallet+ accounts. There will be no carry over or transfer of NerdWallet+ Reward Points to other NerdWallet programs.
9. Redemption of NerdWallet+ Reward Points
a. NerdWallet+ Reward Points may only be redeemed after a minimum threshold level of points is reached by the member. You can find the minimum threshold level of points on the relevant NerdWallet+ Program webpages or your NerdWallet+ reward portal account, which may be updated by NerdWallet from time to time. The minimum threshold level of points is currently 2,500 points, but this may be updated by NerdWallet from time to time (including through changes to the relevant NerdWallet+ Program webpages and your NerdWallet+ reward portal account).
b. NerdWallet+ Reward Points may only be redeemed for digital third-party gift cards as offered on the NerdWallet+ rewards portal, an ACH cash transfer directly to an Eligible Bank Account (as defined in Section 11) or other redemption options set forth on the NerdWallet+ Payout tab by following the NerdWallet+ Program instructions or otherwise notified to the NerdWallet+ member, and only after a certain minimum threshold level of points is reached and other stated requirements are met. Such minimum threshold and other requirements will be set forth on the NerdWallet+ Program webpage. If you have less than the minimum NerdWallet+ Reward Points, your NerdWallet+ Reward Points will remain active in your NerdWallet+ account during the then-current annual NerdWallet+ Program membership until you have enough to redeem them.
c. The dollar value of the digital gift card, ACH cash transfer or other redemption option that you will be entitled to for one NerdWallet+ point (i.e., the NerdWallet+ Reward Points conversion rate) will also be set forth on the NerdWallet+ Program webpage, which is subject to change.
d. Once NerdWallet+ Reward Points are redeemed, the redemption cannot be reversed. Any problems or limitations in using the digital gift card should be directed to the third-party card issuer.
e. From time to time, the NerdWallet+ Program may in its discretion offer NerdWallet+ members other NerdWallet+ point redemption options and other NerdWallet+ related specialized offers or benefits. Additional terms may apply.
f. Certain exclusions or other restrictions with respect to NerdWallet+ Reward Points and redemptions may be determined and communicated by the NerdWallet+ Program in its sole discretion.
g. As long as you have a current NerdWallet+ membership, your NerdWallet+ Reward Points will not expire so long as you access your NerdWallet+ account within three years by earning NerdWallet+ Reward Points, redeeming NerdWallet+ Reward Points, logging into the NerdWallet+ reward portal, or contacting NerdWallet customer service about your NerdWallet+ Program membership during such three year period. If the NerdWallet+ member does not access their NerdWallet+ account as described in the foregoing, state unclaimed property laws may require the escheat of eligible points that remain in the account.
10. Gift Cards
a. Each gift card provided to you under these NerdWallet+ Terms is issued by a third-party (“Provider”) and subject to additional terms and conditions of that Provider.
b. Each gift card will only be delivered to the NerdWallet+ member electronically via email at the email address associated with the NerdWallet+ member’s reward portal account at the time of redemption. NerdWallet will not issue hardcopy gift cards.
c. Neither NerdWallet nor the Provider or any of NerdWallet’s or the Provider’s affiliates is responsible and assume no liability for the non-delivery of digital gift cards because of an invalid address, spam filters, or any other reason or for lost, misplaced, stolen, deleted or misuse of any gift card, and associated access codes.
d. Gift cards are not redeemable for cash. Retailers and other merchants choose whether to accept gift cards. Unless required by applicable law, no refunds will be provided for gift cards.
11. ACH Cash Transfers
a. In order to redeem NerdWallet+ Reward Points for an ACH cash transfer, you first need to link an external bank account issued in the U.S. (referred to as the “Deposit Account”) to your NerdWallet+ Payout tab. You should provide all the complete and accurate information requested by NerdWallet and follow the instructions on the relevant NerdWallet+ webpage. It’s important to keep the Deposit Account in good standing to receive ACH cash transfers from NerdWallet. Additionally, there may be further requirements for the Deposit Account to be eligible to receive ACH cash transfers, as outlined on the NerdWallet+ webpages.
b. If any ACH cash transfer is attempted to be made to your Deposit Account and fails, such as due to incomplete and inaccurate information provided by you, you will receive an error message. If you fail to correct the error, the corresponding NerdWallet+ Reward Points will remain in your reward portal account.
c. All cash transferred by NerdWallet will be in U.S. dollars only.
12. Third Party Products and Offerings
a. As a NerdWallet+ member, you may be eligible to apply for, receive or participate in, certain products and services that are provided or “powered” by a third party (“Third Party Products”). Even if they are being offered or made available to you as part of the NerdWallet+ Program (including if you are offered NerdWallet+ Reward Points for participating in such Third Party Products), the Third Party Products are provided by third parties, not by NerdWallet or its affiliates. Accordingly, NerdWallet shall not be liable for such Third Party Products or any loss caused or alleged to be caused by such Third Party Products. Third Party Products are subject to change and cancellation by the relevant third party and may have restrictions and other terms imposed by the third parties which will be made available for you to review and accept. Your use, and if applicable, your application for and purchase of, Third Party Products will accordingly also be subject to the terms and conditions of the relevant third party provider.
b. NerdWallet does not control any Third Party Products, or any third party websites you may be directed to in connection with such Third Party Products (including third party website content which may be framed on NerdWallet’s website) (such websites and content included in such websites, “Third Party Product Sites”). NerdWallet has not reviewed the content, advertising, products, services, or other materials that appear on such Third Party Product Sites, and is not responsible for the legality, accuracy, or appropriateness of any such content, and shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with such Third Party Product Sites.
c. When you provide us with data, information or content when you apply for, receive or otherwise participate in any Third Party Products, you hereby consent to our transfer of such data, information and content to the third party provider of the relevant Third Party Product, to enable them to provide the Third Party Product to you and others, and to process such data, information and content for NerdWallet’s own purposes.
ALL DISCLAIMERS OF WARRANTIES AND LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY IN THE NERDWALLET TERMS OF USE APPLY TO OUR OFFERING OF OR MAKING AVAILABLE OF THE THIRD PARTY PRODUCTS AND THIRD PARTY PRODUCT SITES.
13. Third-Party Services
a. To earn NerdWallet+ points, you may be required to access and use certain third-party tools, software or links, including through the use of the “Link My Account” feature (discussed in the NerdWallet Terms of Use) and link your NerdWallet account to certain third-party accounts. ANY SUCH TOOLS, SOFTWARE, LINKS AND SERVICES OF THIRD-PARTIES (“THIRD-PARTY SERVICES”) ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES, REPRESENTATIONS, OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND AND WITHOUT ANY ENDORSEMENT. Any use of and access to Third-Party Services are entirely at your own risk and discretion, and we shall have no liability whatsoever arising from or relating to your use of or access to them.
b. When you link to a Third-Party Service, information about you or your accounts with financial service providers may be shared with the relevant third-party and NerdWallet, and we may receive information about you and your financial accounts through or with the Third-Party Service. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for more information.
14. Cancellation of NerdWallet+ Reward Points or NerdWallet+ Program Membership
a. Without limiting NerdWallet’s rights or remedies, NerdWallet may in its sole discretion modify, suspend or terminate your use of the NerdWallet+ Program or your ability to earn or redeem NerdWallet+ Reward Points, remove NerdWallet+ Reward Points from your NerdWallet+ reward portal account, or refuse to provide you with NerdWallet+ Reward Points, for any reason, including (without limitation) if there is or we suspect any of the following: (i) there is fraud or abuse (including if NerdWallet determines that NerdWallet+ Reward Points were improperly or fraudulently earned), (ii) an act or omission has occurred relating to your NerdWallet+ reward portal account that is unauthorized, illegal or in bad faith, (iii) you have breached these NerdWallet+ Terms or NerdWallet Terms of Use, (iv) you have violated any law, (v) you have otherwise misused NerdWallet+, your NerdWallet+ reward portal, or other NerdWallet services, (vii) you have subsequently canceled, not completed or reversed an activity that you commenced that originally may have entitled you to NerdWallet+ Reward Points, or (vii) NerdWallet determines that the NerdWallet+ Reward Points deposited in your reward portal were not validly earned.
b. Any modification or termination of your use of NerdWallet+, your ability to earn or redeem NerdWallet+ Reward Points or removal of NerdWallet+ Reward Points from your NerdWallet+ reward portal account may result in the loss and forfeiture of all NerdWallet+ Reward Points in your NerdWallet+ reward portal.
15. Taxes
You are responsible for any federal, state or local taxes that may apply to earning or using your NerdWallet+ Reward Points, including the receipt of gift cards, cash, or other rewards. NerdWallet is not responsible for collecting, paying or remitting any taxes on your behalf. Please consult your tax advisor if you have questions about the tax implications to you of the NerdWallet+ Program.
NerdWallet will contact you to request, and you agree to provide, a Form W-9 or any other similar personal information required by NerdWallet if it determines it is or may be required to file a 1099 or other documentation with any state or federal taxing authority regarding points earned or gift cards, cash or other rewards received by you in a given year. If you fail to timely provide the requested information, you understand that NerdWallet may suspend your NerdWallet+ reward portal and membership, and/or withhold on amounts otherwise payable to you to the extent required by applicable law.
16. Additional Indemnity
In addition to all other rights or remedies of NerdWallet, each NerdWallet+ member accepts all responsibility for, and hereby agrees to indemnify and hold harmless NerdWallet and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates and agents, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, shareholders, and successors, assigns, and service providers, from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses that may arise from any actions taken by such member or member’s participation in the NerdWallet+ Program.
17. Additional Eligibility Criteria
In addition to the eligibility criteria set forth in these NerdWallet+ Terms, to participate in and become a member of NerdWallet+, you must not be a resident of a country subject to economic or trade sanctions by the U.S. State Department or U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”) or be listed as a “Specially Designated National,” a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist,” a “Blocked Person” or similar designation under the OFAC sanctions regime. You agree to provide additional information as we may reasonably request to verify your identity as a condition of participating in any benefits or offerings of NerdWallet+.
