In this review

Quicken WillMaker is an online estate planning service that uses a comprehensive questionnaire to help you write a personalized will and other documents. It’s owned by legal software provider Nolo, and it’s available online or as a software download.

The service offers dozens of estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, transfer on death deeds, health care directives and other financial management documents. Users can choose between three plans ranging from $99 to $209.

All plans include a will and health care directives. You’ll have a year to edit your documents, and then lifetime access to the completed forms. Keep in mind that Quicken WillMaker is not available in Louisiana or U.S. territories, but it’s a top choice for a state-specific online will maker in any other state.

    What it looks like

Nolo’s Quicken WillMaker is available as downloadable desktop software or a cloud-based application. Both options use an interview-like process to help users create their documents (but note that you can’t move documents from one platform to the other).

    Quicken WillMaker benefits and drawbacks

    Pros:

    • You can access your documents at any time, even if your membership isn’t active.

    • The All Access plan comes with a one-year membership to Everplans digital vault, which lets you share your documents with trusted members and add important passwords in one secure online location.

    • All plans include provisions for final arrangements, including funeral, burial and obituaries.

    • Plus and All Access plans include a transfer on death deed.

    • In 2024, Quicken WillMaker added three new documents included with the Plus and All Access plans:  a limited power of attorney, a promissory note (a lending agreement) and a temporary guardianship authorization.

    Cons:

    • No attorney access. Other online will makers offer attorney support for a fee, or even for free.

    • Only the Plus and All Access plans include the downloadable version of the software.

    • You’ll need to maintain an annual membership to make changes to your documents.
