High coverage caps and comparatively low monthly premiums make OneGuard Home Warranty an option for homeowners who want to save a little on home warranty plans. The company offers two options for service fees and covers access repairs when technicians cut into floors, ceilings or walls.
On some items, OneGuard Home Warranty also covers repairs due to insufficient maintenance, which is rare for home warranty companies. Coverage is only available in Arizona, Nevada and Texas, though, and the company has relatively low customer satisfaction ratings online.
OneGuard Home Warranty is owned by American Home Shield. In 2016, American Home Shield acquired OneGuard Home Warranty. Although OneGuard continues to serve homeowners under its name, American Home Shield provides the majority of the service. For example, if you purchase a plan through OneGuard, you are actually purchasing an American Home Shield plan. American Home Shield provides the claims support, and both companies use the same pool of third-party contractors.

How does OneGuard Home Warranty work?
Like its competitors, OneGuard Home Warranty covers problems that come with standard wear and tear. However, plans also cover:
Improper installation or repair on most covered items if you didn’t know about them before the home warranty coverage started.
Insufficient maintenance of covered items.
Issues caused by rust, corrosion or sediment.
It also doesn’t pay to repair cosmetic issues or physical damage that was caused by misuse or for regular maintenance.
Customers can purchase three plans through OneGuard Home Warranty:
The ShieldSilver plan provides coverage for home systems, including air conditioning, heating, electrical and plumbing systems.
The ShieldGold plan includes the same coverage as the ShieldSilver plan plus coverage for kitchen appliances and a washer and dryer set.
The ShieldPlatinum plan covers the same items as the other two plans plus coverage for roof leak repairs and increased coverage caps for appliances.
You can purchase optional coverage for items such as septic pumps, wells pumps, pools, built-in spa equipment and guest units. However, add-on coverage comes with an extra fee.

Similar to competitors, OneGuard Home Warranty sets limits on how much it’ll pay toward a covered item’s repair or replacement. It will pay or reimburse you up to:
$5,000 each for air conditioning and heating systems and ductwork.
$3,000 for plumbing.
$3,000 for electrical.
$2,000-$4,000 per appliance depending on plan.
$1,000 for roof leak repair.
When filing a claim, customers can submit information through an online portal or by calling a customer service representative by phone. OneGuard Home Warranty’s team will assign a third-party technician to your claim, and you’ll schedule an appointment for a technician to diagnose the issue. OneGuard Home Warranty doesn’t let customers choose their own technicians.
As with most home warranty companies, OneGuard Home Warranty charges customers a service fee ($100 or $125) every time a technician is dispatched to diagnose an issue. You usually pay this up front.

OneGuard Home Warranty lets customers choose between two service fees: $100 or $125 per service call. Customers who choose the $125 service fee will pay less in monthly premiums than those who choose the $100 service fee.
OneGuard Home Warranty plans come with a 30-day repair guarantee — if the company sends out a technician to repair an item and it malfunctions within 30 days, it’ll repair it again without charging you a service fee.

Pros of OneGuard Home Warranty
High coverage limits. Because OneGuard Home Warranty sells American Home Shield plans, it is able to offer coverage limits that are higher than many of its competitors. This is especially true for the $5,000 limit for HVAC systems that applies to every plan and the $4,000 limit for appliances with the ShieldPlatinum plan.
Pays for access repair. If a technician has to cut into a wall, floor or ceiling to access a covered item, OneGuard Home Warranty will pay up to $1,000 to repair the damage. Not every home warranty company provides this coverage.
Cons of OneGuard Home Warranty
Only available in three states. Coverage through OneGuard Home Warranty is only available in Arizona, Nevada and Texas.
