Overall institution rating
4.5
The NBKC Everything Account combines checking and savings features in one account. NBKC also offers certificates of deposit and money market accounts with decent interest rates.
Though NBKC’s ATM network is large, as a primarily online bank its branch network is very small, with only four available in the Kansas City, Missouri, area. NBKC’s customer service phone line is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST, and its live chat support is available the same hours plus Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
NBKC offers a couple of online services for financial management, including features called Savings Goals and Financial Snapshot, both of which help customers manage their money. The bank also provides early direct deposit, which can help with money management.
Best for: Online banking customers who want the convenience of free checking, high-yield savings, and budgeting tools all in one account and won’t need support on weekends or in person.

Methodology
NerdWallet’s overall ratings for banks and credit unions are weighted averages of several categories: checking, savings, certificates of deposit or credit union share certificates, banking experience and overdraft fees. Factors we consider, depending on the category, include rates and fees, ATM and branch access, account features and limits, user-facing technology, customer service and innovation. The stars represent ratings from poor (one star) to excellent (five stars). Ratings are rounded to the nearest half-star.
