*51% of consumers could save £670.97 on their Van Insurance. The saving was calculated by comparing the cheapest price found with the average of the next five cheapest prices quoted by insurance providers on Seopa Ltd’s insurance comparison website. This is based on representative cost savings from August 2024. The savings you could achieve are dependent on your individual circumstances.

Do I need van insurance?

If you own a van you must have a minimum of third party vehicle insurance by law. This applies whether you drive it for private use or for work.

The minimum level of cover offers protection if you have an accident that damages another vehicle or injures someone else. More extensive cover can include the cost of replacement or repairs if your van or its contents are stolen or damaged, and personal injury costs.

Without insurance you could face a fixed penalty and penalty points, an unlimited fine or be disqualified from driving. The only exception is if you have a statutory off road notification (SORN), which is a declaration that the van isn’t being driven or parked on a public road.

What does van insurance cover?

There are three main types of van insurance.

Third Party Third Party,
Fire & Theft
Compre-
hensive
Injury to others or damage to their property
Theft of your car and fire damage
Damage to your car and personal injury costs

Optional cover, such as breakdown assistance, may also be available, though it's likely to increase your premium.
